The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2.  Wie geschrieben steht in Jesaja, dem Propheten: «Siehe, ich sende meinen Boten vor deinem Angesicht her, der deinen Weg bereiten wird. As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: "BEHOLD, I SEND MY MESSENGER AHEAD OF YOU,
WHO WILL PREPARE YOUR WAY;
3.  Eine Stimme ruft in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn, machet seine Pfade eben!» THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS,
`MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD,
MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT.' "
4.  So begann Johannes in der Wüste, taufte und predigte eine Taufe der Buße zur Vergebung der Sünden. John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5.  Und es ging zu ihm hinaus das ganze jüdische Land und alle Bewohner von Jerusalem, und sie wurden im Jordan von ihm getauft, wenn sie ihre Sünden bekannten. And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. 6.  Johannes aber war bekleidet mit Kamelhaaren und trug einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden und aß Heuschrecken und wilden Honig. John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey. 7.  Und er predigte und sprach: Es kommt einer nach mir, der stärker ist als ich, für den ich nicht gut genug bin, gebückt seinen Schuhriemen aufzulösen. And he was preaching, and saying, "After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to stoop down and untie the thong of His sandals. 8.  Ich habe euch mit Wasser getauft; er aber wird euch mit heiligem Geiste taufen. "I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." 9.  Und es begab sich in jenen Tagen, daß Jesus von Nazareth in Galiläa kam und sich von Johannes im Jordan taufen ließ. In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10.  Und alsbald, da er aus dem Wasser stieg, sah er die Himmel zerrissen und den Geist gleich einer Taube auf ihn herabsteigen. Going on a little farther, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. 20.  Und alsbald berief er sie; und sie ließen ihren Vater Zebedäus samt den Taglöhnern im Schiff und folgten ihm nach. Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to follow Him. 21.  Und sie begaben sich nach Kapernaum; und er trat alsbald am Sabbat in die Synagoge und lehrte. They *went into Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and began to teach. 22.  Und sie erstaunten über seine Lehre; denn er lehrte sie wie einer, der Vollmacht hat, und nicht wie die Schriftgelehrten. They were amazed at His teaching; for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23.  Und alsbald war in ihrer Synagoge ein Mensch mit einem unreinen Geiste, der schrie Just then there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24.  und sprach: Was haben wir mit dir zu schaffen, Jesus von Nazareth? Bist du gekommen uns zu verderben? Ich weiß, wer du bist: der Heilige Gottes! saying, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are--the Holy One of God!" 25.  Aber Jesus bedrohte ihn und sprach: Verstumme und fahre aus von ihm! And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet, and come out of him!" 26.  Da riß der unreine Geist ihn hin und her, schrie mit lauter Stimme und fuhr von ihm aus. Throwing him into convulsions, the unclean spirit cried out with a loud voice and came out of him. 27.  Und sie erstaunten alle, so daß sie sich untereinander befragten, und sprachen: Was ist das? Eine neue Lehre! Mit Vollmacht gebietet er auch den unreinen Geistern, und sie gehorchen ihm. They were all amazed, so that they debated among themselves, saying, "What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him." 28.  Und das Gerücht von ihm verbreitete sich alsbald in die ganze umliegende Landschaft von Galiläa. Immediately the news about Him spread everywhere into all the surrounding district of Galilee. 29.  Und alsbald verließen sie die Synagoge und gingen in das Haus des Simon und Andreas, mit Jakobus und Johannes. And immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30.  Simons Schwiegermutter aber lag krank am Fieber darnieder, und alsbald sagten sie ihm von ihr. Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they *spoke to Jesus about her. 31.  Und er trat hinzu, ergriff ihre Hand und richtete sie auf; und das Fieber verließ sie alsbald, und sie diente ihnen. And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she waited on them. 32.  Als es aber Abend geworden und die Sonne untergegangen war, brachten sie zu ihm alle Kranken und Besessenen. When evening came, after the sun had set, they began bringing to Him all who were ill and those who were demon-possessed. 33.  Und die ganze Stadt war vor der Türe versammelt. And the whole city had gathered at the door. 34.  Und er heilte viele, die an mancherlei Krankheiten litten, und trieb viele Dämonen aus und ließ die Dämonen nicht reden, denn sie kannten ihn. And He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was. 35.  Und am Morgen, als es noch sehr dunkel war, stand er auf, ging hinaus an einen einsamen Ort und betete daselbst. In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there. 36.  Und Simon eilte ihm nach, samt denen, die bei ihm waren; Simon and his companions searched for Him; 37.  und als sie ihn gefunden, sprachen sie zu ihm: Jedermann sucht dich! they found Him, and *said to Him, "Everyone is looking for You." 38.  Und er spricht zu ihnen: Laßt uns anderswohin, in die nächsten Flecken gehen, damit ich auch dort predige; denn dazu bin ich ausgegangen. He *said to them, "Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for." 39.  Und er ging und predigte in ganz Galiläa in ihren Synagogen und trieb die Dämonen aus. And He went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out the demons. 40.  Und es kam ein Aussätziger zu ihm, bat ihn, fiel vor ihm auf die Knie und sprach: Wenn du willst, kannst du mich reinigen! And a leper *came to Jesus, beseeching Him and falling on his knees before Him, and saying, "If You are willing, You can make me clean." 41.  Da erbarmte sich Jesus seiner, streckte die Hand aus, rührte ihn an und sprach zu ihm: Ich will; sei gereinigt! Moved with compassion, Jesus stretched out His hand and touched him, and *said to him, "I am willing; be cleansed." 42.  Und während er redete, wich der Aussatz alsbald von ihm, und er wurde rein. Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. 43.  Und er bedrohte ihn und schickte ihn alsbald fort And He sternly warned him and immediately sent him away, 44.  und sprach zu ihm: Siehe zu, sage es niemand; sondern gehe hin, zeige dich dem Priester und opfere für deine Reinigung, was Mose befohlen hat, ihnen zum Zeugnis! and He *said to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." 45.  Er aber ging und fing an, es vielfach zu verkündigen und breitete die Sache überall aus, so daß Jesus nicht mehr öffentlich in eine Stadt hineingehen konnte, sondern er war draußen an einsamen Orten; und sie kamen von allen Seiten zu ihm. But he went out and began to proclaim it freely and to spread the news around, to such an extent that Jesus could no longer publicly enter a city, but stayed out in unpopulated areas; and they were coming to Him from everywhere.

1.  Und nach etlichen Tagen ging er wieder nach Kapernaum; und als man hörte, daß er im Hause wäre, When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home. 2.  versammelten sich alsbald viele, so daß kein Raum mehr war, auch nicht draußen bei der Tür; und er predigte ihnen das Wort. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them. 3.  Und man brachte einen Gelähmten zu ihm, der von Vieren getragen wurde. And they *came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men. 4.  Und da sie wegen der Menge nicht zu ihm herankommen konnten, deckten sie dort, wo er war, das Dach ab, und nachdem sie durchgebrochen, ließen sie das Bett, darauf der Gelähmte lag, herab. Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying. 5.  Als aber Jesus ihren Glauben sah, sprach er zu dem Gelähmten: Sohn, deine Sünden sind dir vergeben! And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven." 6.  Es saßen aber dort etliche von den Schriftgelehrten, die dachten in ihren Herzen: But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7.  Was redet dieser so? Er lästert! Wer kann Sünden vergeben als nur Gott allein? "Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?" 8.  Und alsbald merkte Jesus kraft seines Geistes, daß sie so bei sich dachten, und sprach zu ihnen: Warum denkt ihr solches in euren Herzen? Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, "Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts? 9.  Was ist leichter, zu dem Gelähmten zu sagen: Deine Sünden sind dir vergeben? oder zu sagen: Steh auf, nimm dein Bett und wandle? "Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, `Your sins are forgiven'; or to say, `Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk'? 10.  Damit ihr aber wisset, daß des Menschen Sohn Vollmacht hat, auf Erden Sünden zu vergeben, sprach er zu dem Gelähmten: "But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--He *said to the paralytic, 11.  Ich sage dir, stehe auf, nimm dein Bett und gehe heim! "I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home." 12.  Und er stand auf, nahm alsbald sein Bett und ging vor aller Augen hinaus; so daß sie alle erstaunten, Gott priesen und sprachen: Solches haben wir noch nie gesehen! And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this." 13.  Und er ging wieder an das Meer hinaus, und alles Volk kam zu ihm, und er lehrte sie. And He went out again by the seashore; and all the people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them. 14.  Und als er vorüberging, sah er Levi, den Sohn des Alphäus, am Zoll sitzen. Und er spricht zu ihm: Folge mir nach! Und er stand auf und folgte ihm. As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting in the tax booth, and He *said to him, "Follow Me!" And he got up and followed Him. 15.  Und es begab sich, als er in dessen Hause zu Tische saß, daß auch viele Zöllner und Sünder sich mit Jesus und seinen Jüngern zu Tische setzten, denn es waren viele, die ihm nachfolgten. And it *happened that He was reclining at the table in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners were dining with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many of them, and they were following Him. 16.  Und als die Schriftgelehrten und Pharisäer sahen, daß er mit den Zöllnern und Sündern aß, sprachen sie zu seinen Jüngern: Warum ißt und trinkt er mit den Zöllnern und Sündern? When the scribes of the Pharisees saw that He was eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they said to His disciples, "Why is He eating and drinking with tax collectors and sinners?" 17.  Und als Jesus es hörte, sprach er zu ihnen: Nicht die Starken bedürfen des Arztes, sondern die Kranken. Ich bin nicht gekommen, Gerechte zu rufen, sondern Sünder zur Buße. And hearing this, Jesus *said to them, "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners." 18.  Und die Jünger des Johannes und die Pharisäer pflegten zu fasten; und sie kamen zu ihm und fragten: Warum fasten die Jünger des Johannes und der Pharisäer, deine Jünger aber fasten nicht? John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting; and they *came and *said to Him, "Why do John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?" 19.  Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Können die Hochzeitsleute fasten, solange der Bräutigam bei ihnen ist? Solange sie den Bräutigam bei sich haben, können sie nicht fasten. And Jesus said to them, "While the bridegroom is with them, the attendants of the bridegroom cannot fast, can they? So long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20.  Es werden aber Tage kommen, da der Bräutigam von ihnen genommen wird, alsdann werden sie fasten, an jenem Tage. "But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day. 21.  Niemand näht ein Stück ungewalkten Tuches auf ein altes Kleid; sonst reißt die Füllung davon ab, das neue von dem alten, und der Riß wird ärger. "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; otherwise the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and a worse tear results. 22.  Und niemand faßt neuen Wein in alte Schläuche; sonst zerreißt der Wein die Schläuche und der Wein wird verschüttet und die Schläuche verderben; sondern neuer Wein ist in neue Schläuche zu fassen. "No one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins as well; but one puts new wine into fresh wineskins." 23.  Und es begab sich, daß er am Sabbat durch die Saatfelder wandelte. Und seine Jünger fingen an, auf dem Wege die Ähren abzustreifen. And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain. 24.  Und die Pharisäer sprachen zu ihm: Siehe, warum tun sie am Sabbat, was nicht erlaubt ist? The Pharisees were saying to Him, "Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?" 25.  Und er sprach zu ihnen: Habt ihr niemals gelesen, was David tat, da er Mangel litt, als ihn und seine Begleiter hungerte, And He *said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry; 26.  wie er in das Haus Gottes hineinging zur Zeit des Hohenpriesters Abjathar und die Schaubrote aß, die niemand essen darf als nur die Priester, und wie er auch denen davon gab, die bei ihm waren? how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?" 27.  Und er sprach zu ihnen: Der Sabbat ist um des Menschen willen gemacht, nicht der Mensch um des Sabbats willen. 1.	Und nach etlichen Tagen ging er wieder nach Kapernaum; und als man hörte, daß er im Hause wäre,	When He had come back to Capernaum several days afterward, it was heard that He was at home.
2.	versammelten sich alsbald viele, so daß kein Raum mehr war, auch nicht draußen bei der Tür; und er predigte ihnen das Wort.	And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room, not even near the door; and He was speaking the word to them.
3.	Und man brachte einen Gelähmten zu ihm, der von Vieren getragen wurde.	And they *came, bringing to Him a paralytic, carried by four men.
4.	Und da sie wegen der Menge nicht zu ihm herankommen konnten, deckten sie dort, wo er war, das Dach ab, und nachdem sie durchgebrochen, ließen sie das Bett, darauf der Gelähmte lag, herab.	Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying.
5.	Als aber Jesus ihren Glauben sah, sprach er zu dem Gelähmten: Sohn, deine Sünden sind dir vergeben!	And Jesus seeing their faith *said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven."
6.	Es saßen aber dort etliche von den Schriftgelehrten, die dachten in ihren Herzen:	But some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts,
7.	Was redet dieser so? Er lästert! Wer kann Sünden vergeben als nur Gott allein?	"Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?"
8.	Und alsbald merkte Jesus kraft seines Geistes, daß sie so bei sich dachten, und sprach zu ihnen: Warum denkt ihr solches in euren Herzen?	Immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, *said to them, "Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts?
9.	Was ist leichter, zu dem Gelähmten zu sagen: Deine Sünden sind dir vergeben? oder zu sagen: Steh auf, nimm dein Bett und wandle?	"Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, `Your sins are forgiven'; or to say, `Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk'?
10.	Damit ihr aber wisset, daß des Menschen Sohn Vollmacht hat, auf Erden Sünden zu vergeben, sprach er zu dem Gelähmten:	"But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins"--He *said to the paralytic,
11.	Ich sage dir, stehe auf, nimm dein Bett und gehe heim!	"I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and go home."
12.	Und er stand auf, nahm alsbald sein Bett und ging vor aller Augen hinaus; so daß sie alle erstaunten, Gott priesen und sprachen: Solches haben wir noch nie gesehen!	And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, "We have never seen anything like this."
13.	Und er ging wieder an das Meer hinaus, und alles Volk kam zu ihm, und er lehrte sie.	And He went out again by the seashore; and all the people were coming to Him, and He was teaching them.

He entered again into a synagogue; and a man was there whose hand was withered. 2.  Und sie lauerten ihm auf, ob er ihn am Sabbat heilen würde, damit sie ihn verklagen könnten. They were watching Him to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him. 3.  Und er spricht zu dem Menschen, der die verdorrte Hand hatte: Steh auf und tritt in die Mitte! He *said to the man with the withered hand, "Get up and come forward!" 4.  Und er spricht zu ihnen: Darf man am Sabbat Gutes oder Böses tun, das Leben retten oder töten? Sie aber schwiegen. And He *said to them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill?" But they kept silent. 5.  Und indem er sie ringsumher mit Zorn ansah, betrübt wegen der Verstocktheit ihres Herzens, spricht er zu dem Menschen: Strecke deine Hand aus! Und er streckte sie aus, und seine Hand wurde wieder gesund wie die andere. After looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, He *said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." The Pharisees went out and immediately began conspiring with the Herodians against Him, as to how they might destroy Him. 7.  Aber Jesus entwich mit seinen Jüngern an das Meer; und eine große Menge aus Galiläa folgte ihm nach; auch aus Judäa Jesus withdrew to the sea with His disciples; and a great multitude from Galilee followed; and also from Judea, 8.  und von Jerusalem und von Idumäa und von jenseits des Jordan und aus der Gegend von Tyrus und Zidon kamen große Scharen zu ihm, da sie gehört hatten, wie viel er tat. and from Jerusalem, and from Idumea, and beyond the Jordan, and the vicinity of Tyre and Sidon, a great number of people heard of all that He was doing and came to Him. 9.  Und er befahl seinen Jüngern, ihm ein Schifflein bereitzuhalten um der Volksmenge willen, damit sie ihn nicht drängten. And He told His disciples that a boat should stand ready for Him because of the crowd, so that they would not crowd Him; 10.  Denn er heilte viele, so daß alle, die eine Plage hatten, ihn überfielen, um ihn anzurühren. for He had healed many, with the result that all those who had afflictions pressed around Him in order to touch Him. 11.  Und wenn ihn die unreinen Geister erblickten, fielen sie vor ihm nieder, schrieen und sprachen: Du bist der Sohn Gottes! Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, they would fall down before Him and shout, "You are the Son of God!" 12.  Und er drohte ihnen sehr, daß sie ihn nicht offenbar machen sollten. And He earnestly warned them not to tell who He was. 13.  Und er stieg auf den Berg und rief zu sich, welche er wollte; und sie kamen zu ihm. And He *went up on the mountain and *summoned those whom He Himself wanted, and they came to Him. 14.  Und er verordnete zwölf, daß sie bei ihm wären und daß er sie aussendete zu predigen And He appointed twelve, so that they would be with Him and that He could send them out to preach, 15.  und daß sie Macht hätten, die Dämonen auszutreiben: and to have authority to cast out the demons. 16.  Simon, welchem er den Namen Petrus beilegte, And He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom He gave the name Peter), 17.  und Jakobus, den Sohn des Zebedäus, und Johannes, den Bruder des Jakobus, welchen er den Namen Boanerges, das heißt Donnersöhne, beilegte; and James, the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James (to them He gave the name Boanerges, which means, "Sons of Thunder"); 18.  und Andreas, Philippus, Bartholomäus, Matthäus, Thomas, Jakobus, den Sohn des Alphäus, Thaddäus, Simon den Kananäer, and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot; 19.  und Judas Ischariot, der ihn auch verriet. and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him. 20.  Und sie traten in das Haus, und das Volk kam abermals zusammen, also daß sie nicht einmal Speise zu sich nehmen konnten. And He *came home, and the crowd *gathered again, to such an extent that they could not even eat a meal. 21.  Und als die, welche um ihn waren, es hörten, gingen sie aus, ihn zu greifen; denn sie sagten: Er ist von Sinnen! When His own people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, "He has lost His senses." 22.  Und die Schriftgelehrten, die von Jerusalem herabgekommen waren, sprachen: Er hat den Beelzebul, und durch den Obersten der Dämonen treibt er die Dämonen aus. The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons." 23.  Da rief er sie zu sich und sprach in Gleichnissen zu ihnen: Wie kann ein Satan den andern austreiben? And He called them to Himself and began speaking to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan? 24.  Und wenn ein Reich in sich selbst uneinig ist, so kann ein solches Reich nicht bestehen. "If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25.  Und wenn ein Haus in sich selbst uneinig ist, so kann ein solches Haus nicht bestehen. "If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26.  Und wenn der Satan wider sich selbst auftritt und entzweit ist, so kann er nicht bestehen, sondern er nimmt ein Ende. "If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but he is finished! 27.  Niemand kann in das Haus des Starken hineingehen und seinen Hausrat rauben, es sei denn, er binde zuvor den Starken; dann erst wird er sein Haus berauben. "But no one can enter the strong man's house and plunder his property unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house. 28.  Wahrlich, ich sage euch, alle Sünden sollen den Menschenkindern vergeben werden, auch die Lästerungen, womit sie lästern; "Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter; 29.  wer aber wider den heiligen Geist lästert, der hat in Ewigkeit keine Vergebung, sondern er ist einer ewigen Sünde schuldig. but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"-- 30.  Denn sie sagten: Er hat einen unreinen Geist. because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit." 31.  Da kamen seine Mutter und seine Brüder; sie blieben aber draußen, schickten zu ihm und ließen ihn rufen. Then His mother and His brothers *arrived, and standing outside they sent word to Him and called Him. 32.  Und das Volk saß um ihn her. Und sie sagten zu ihm: Siehe, deine Mutter und deine Brüder sind draußen und suchen dich. A crowd was sitting around Him, and they *said to Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are outside looking for You." 33.  Und er antwortete ihnen und sprach: Wer ist meine Mutter, oder meine Brüder? Answering them, He *said, "Who are My mother and My brothers?" 34.  Und indem er ringsumher die ansah, welche um ihn saßen, spricht er: Siehe da, meine Mutter und meine Brüder! Looking about at those who were sitting around Him, He *said, "Behold My mother and My brothers! 35.  Denn wer den Willen Gottes tut, der ist mir Bruder und Schwester und Mutter. 20.	Und sie traten in das Haus, und das Volk kam abermals zusammen, also daß sie nicht einmal Speise zu sich nehmen konnten.	And He *came home, and the crowd *gathered again, to such an extent that they could not even eat a meal.
21.	Und als die, welche um ihn waren, es hörten, gingen sie aus, ihn zu greifen; denn sie sagten: Er ist von Sinnen!	When His own people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, "He has lost His senses."
22.	Und die Schriftgelehrten, die von Jerusalem herabgekommen waren, sprachen: Er hat den Beelzebul, und durch den Obersten der Dämonen treibt er die Dämonen aus.	The scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "He casts out the demons by the ruler of the demons."

24.	Und wenn ein Reich in sich selbst uneinig ist, so kann ein solches Reich nicht bestehen.	"If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
25.	Und wenn ein Haus in sich selbst uneinig ist, so kann ein solches Haus nicht bestehen.	"If a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.
26.	Und wenn der Satan wider sich selbst auftritt und entzweit ist, so kann er nicht bestehen, sondern er nimmt ein Ende.	"If Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but he is finished!

But others were saying, "He is Elijah." But when Herod heard of it, he kept saying, "John, whom I beheaded, has risen!" 17.  Denn er, Herodes, hatte ausgesandt und Johannes greifen und ihn im Gefängnis binden lassen, wegen Herodias, des Weibes seines Bruders Philippus, weil er sie zur Frau genommen hatte. Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death and could not do so; 20.  Denn Herodes fürchtete den Johannes, weil er wußte, daß er ein gerechter und heiliger Mann war, und er bewachte ihn und gehorchte ihm in manchem und hörte ihn gern. for Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was very perplexed; but he used to enjoy listening to him. 21.  Als aber ein gelegener Tag kam, da Herodes seinen Großen und Obersten und den Vornehmsten des galiläischen Landes an seinem Geburtstag ein Gastmahl gab, A strategic day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his lords and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee; 22.  da trat die Tochter der Herodias herein und tanzte. Immediately she came in a hurry to the king and asked, saying, "I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter." 26.  Da ward der König sehr betrübt; doch um des Eides und um derer willen, die mit ihm zu Tische saßen, wollte er sie nicht abweisen. And although the king was very sorry, yet because of his oaths and because of his dinner guests, he was unwilling to refuse her. 27.  Und der König schickte alsbald einen von der Wache hin und befahl, sein Haupt zu bringen. Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring back his head. And he went and had him beheaded in the prison, 28.  Dieser ging hin und enthauptete ihn im Gefängnis und brachte sein Haupt auf einer Schüssel und gab es dem Mädchen, und das Mädchen gab es seiner Mutter. and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29.  Und als seine Jünger es hörten, kamen sie und nahmen seinen Leichnam und legten ihn in ein Grab. When his disciples heard about this, they came and took away his body and laid it in a tomb. 30.  Und die Apostel versammelten sich bei Jesus und verkündigten ihm alles, was sie getan und gelehrt hatten. The apostles *gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught. 31.  Und er sprach zu ihnen: Kommet ihr allein abseits an einen einsamen Ort und ruhet ein wenig! The people saw them going, and many recognized them and ran there together on foot from all the cities, and got there ahead of them. 34.  Und als Jesus ausstieg, sah er eine große Menge Volks und hatte Erbarmen mit ihnen; denn sie waren wie Schafe, die keinen Hirten haben; und er fing an, sie vieles zu lehren. When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things. 35.  Und als nun der Tag fast dahin war, traten seine Jünger zu ihm und sagten: Dieser Ort ist öde, und der Tag ist fast dahin. When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said, "This place is desolate and it is already quite late; 36.  Entlasse sie, damit sie in die Gehöfte und Dörfer ringsumher gehen und sich Brot kaufen; denn sie haben nichts zu essen. send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat." 37.  Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Gebet ihr ihnen zu essen! Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Sollen wir hingehen und für zweihundert Denare Brot kaufen und ihnen zu essen geben? But He answered them, "You give them something to eat!" And they *said to Him, "Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii on bread and give them something to eat?" 38.  Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Wie viele Brote habt ihr? Gehet hin und sehet! Und als sie es erkundigt hatten, sprachen sie: Fünf, und zwei Fische. And He *said to them, "How many loaves do you have? Go look!" And when they found out, they *said, "Five, and two fish." 39.  Und er befahl ihnen, daß sich alle nach Tischgesellschaften ins grüne Gras setzen sollten. And He commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass. 40.  Und sie setzten sich gruppenweise, zu hundert und zu fünfzig. They sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties. 41.  Und er nahm die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische, blickte zum Himmel empor und dankte, brach die Brote und gab sie seinen Jüngern, damit sie sie ihnen vorlegten; auch die zwei Fische teilte er unter alle. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all. 42.  Und sie aßen alle und wurden satt. They all ate and were satisfied, 43.  Und sie hoben auf an Brocken zwölf Körbe voll, und von den Fischen. and they picked up twelve full baskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish. 44.  Und die, welche die Brote gegessen hatten, waren fünftausend Männer. Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while He Himself was sending the crowd away. 46.  Und nachdem er sie verabschiedet hatte, ging er auf einen Berg, um zu beten. Seeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth watch of the night He *came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended to pass by them. 49.  Als sie ihn aber auf dem Meere wandeln sahen, meinten sie, es sei ein Gespenst, und schrieen. But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out; 50.  Denn sie sahen ihn alle und erschraken. Er aber redete alsbald mit ihnen und sprach: Seid getrost! Ich bin's; fürchtet euch nicht! for they all saw Him and were terrified. But immediately He spoke with them and *said to them, "Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid." 51.  Und er stieg zu ihnen in das Schiff, und der Wind legte sich. Und sie erstaunten bei sich selbst über die Maßen und verwunderten sich. When they had crossed over they came to land at Gennesaret, and moored to the shore. 54.  Und als sie aus dem Schiffe traten, erkannten die Leute ihn alsbald, When they got out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him, 55.  durchliefen die ganze umliegende Landschaft und fingen an, die Kranken auf den Betten dorthin zu tragen, wo sie hörten, daß er sei. and ran about that whole country and began to carry here and there on their pallets those who were sick, to the place they heard He was. 56.  Und wo er in Dörfer oder Städte oder Gehöfte einkehrte, da legten sie die Kranken auf die freien Plätze und baten ihn, daß sie nur den Saum seines Kleides anrühren dürften. Und so viele ihn anrührten, die wurden gesund. Wherever He entered villages, or cities, or countryside, they were laying the sick in the market places, and imploring Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak; and as many as touched it were being cured.

8.  Ihr verlasset Gottes Gebot, und haltet der Menschen Aufsätze von Krügen und Trinkgefäßen zu waschen; und desgleichen tut ihr viel. "Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men." 9.  Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wohl fein habt ihr Gottes Gebote aufgehoben, auf daß ihr eure Aufsätze haltet. He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. 10.  Denn Mose hat gesagt: "Du sollst deinen Vater und deine Mutter ehren," und "Wer Vater oder Mutter flucht, soll des Todes sterben." When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable. 18.  Und er sprach zu ihnen: Seid ihr denn auch so unverständig? Vernehmet ihr noch nicht, daß alles, was außen ist und in den Menschen geht, das kann ihn nicht gemein machen? And He *said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, 19.  Denn es geht nicht in sein Herz, sondern in den Bauch, und geht aus durch den natürlichen Gang, der alle Speise ausfegt. because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.) 20.  Und er sprach: Was aus dem Menschen geht, das macht den Menschen gemein; And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. 21.  denn von innen, aus dem Herzen der Menschen, gehen heraus böse Gedanken; Ehebruch, Hurerei, Mord, "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, 22.  Dieberei, Geiz, Schalkheit, List, Unzucht, Schalksauge, Gotteslästerung, Hoffart, Unvernunft. deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. 23.  Alle diese bösen Stücke gehen von innen heraus und machen den Menschen gemein. Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of Tyre. And when He had entered a house, He wanted no one to know of it; yet He could not escape notice. 25.  Denn ein Weib hatte von ihm gehört, deren Töchterlein einen unsauberen Geist hatte, und sie kam und fiel nieder zu seinen Füßen But after hearing of Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately came and fell at His feet. 26.  (und es war ein griechisches Weib aus Syrophönizien), und sie bat ihn, daß er den Teufel von ihrer Tochter austriebe. {~} Now the woman was a Gentile, of the Syrophoenician race. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27.  Jesus aber sprach zu ihr: Laß zuvor die Kinder satt werden; es ist nicht fein, daß man der Kinder Brot nehme und werfe es vor die Hunde. And He was saying to her, "Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." 28.  Sie antwortete aber und sprach zu ihm: Ja, HERR; aber doch essen die Hündlein unter dem Tisch von den Brosamen der Kinder. But she answered and *said to Him, "Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children's crumbs." 29.  Und er sprach zu ihr: Um des Wortes willen so gehe hin; der Teufel ist von deiner Tochter ausgefahren. And He said to her, "Because of this answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter." 30.  Und sie ging hin in ihr Haus und fand, daß der Teufel war ausgefahren und die Tochter auf dem Bette liegend. And going back to her home, she found the child lying on the bed, the demon having left. 31.  Und da er wieder ausging aus der Gegend von Tyrus und Sidon, kam er an das Galiläische Meer, mitten in das Gebiet der zehn Städte. Again He went out from the region of Tyre, and came through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, within the region of Decapolis. 32.  Und sie brachten zu ihm einen Tauben, der stumm war, und sie baten ihn, daß er die Hand auf ihn legte. They *brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they *implored Him to lay His hand on him. 33.  Und er nahm ihn von dem Volk besonders und legte ihm die Finger in die Ohren und spützte und rührte seine Zunge Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after spitting, He touched his tongue with the saliva; 34.  und sah auf gen Himmel, seufzte und sprach zu ihm: Hephatha! das ist: Tu dich auf! and looking up to heaven with a deep sigh, He *said to him, "Ephphatha!" that is, "Be opened!" 35.  Und alsbald taten sich seine Ohren auf, und das Band seiner Zunge war los, und er redete recht. And his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was removed, and he began speaking plainly. 36.  Und er verbot ihnen, sie sollten's niemand sagen. And He *directed the people to sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them, and started giving them to His disciples to serve to them, and they served them to the people. 7.  Und hatten ein wenig Fischlein; und er dankte und hieß die auch vortragen. They also had a few small fish; and after He had blessed them, He ordered these to be served as well. 8.  Sie aßen aber und wurden satt; und hoben die übrigen Brocken auf, sieben Körbe. The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him. 12.  Und er seufzte in seinem Geist und sprach: Was sucht doch dies Geschlecht Zeichen? Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Es wird diesem Geschlecht kein Zeichen gegeben. Sighing deeply in His spirit, He *said, "Why does this generation seek for a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation." 13.  Und er ließ sie und trat wiederum in das Schiff und fuhr herüber. Leaving them, He again embarked and went away to the other side. 14.  Und sie hatten vergessen, Brot mit sich zu nehmen, und hatten nicht mehr mit sich im Schiff denn ein Brot. And they had forgotten to take bread, and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with them. 15.  Und er gebot ihnen und sprach: Schauet zu und sehet euch vor vor dem Sauerteig der Pharisäer und vor dem Sauerteig des Herodes. And He was giving orders to them, saying, "Watch out! Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." 16.  Und sie gedachten hin und her und sprachen untereinander: Das ist's, daß wir nicht Brot haben. They began to discuss with one another the fact that they had no bread. 17.  Und Jesus merkte das und sprach zu ihnen: Was bekümmert ihr euch doch, daß ihr nicht Brot habt? Vernehmet ihr noch nichts und seid noch nicht verständig? Habt ihr noch ein erstarrtes Herz in euch? And Jesus, aware of this, *said to them, "Why do you discuss the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have a hardened heart? 18.  Ihr habt Augen, und sehet nicht, und habt Ohren, und höret nicht, und denket nicht daran, "HAVING EYES, DO YOU NOT SEE ? AND HAVING EARS, DO YOU NOT HEAR ? And do you not remember, 19.  da ich fünf Brote brach unter fünftausend: wie viel Körbe voll Brocken hobt ihr da auf? Sie sprachen: Zwölf. when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up?" "When I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?" And they *said to Him, "Seven." 21.  Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wie vernehmet ihr denn nichts? And He was saying to them, "Do you not yet understand?" 22.  Und er kam gen Bethsaida. Und sie brachten zu ihm einen Blinden und baten ihn, daß er ihn anrührte. And they *came to Bethsaida. And they *brought a blind man to Jesus and *implored Him to touch him. 23.  Und er nahm den Blinden bei der Hand und führte ihn hinaus vor den Flecken; spützte in seine Augen und legte seine Hände auf ihn und fragte ihn, ob er etwas sähe? Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, "Do you see anything?" 24.  Und er sah auf und sprach: Ich sehe Menschen gehen, als sähe ich Bäume. And he looked up and said, "I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around." 25.  Darnach legte er abermals die Hände auf seine Augen und hieß ihn abermals sehen; und er ward wieder zurechtgebracht, daß er alles scharf sehen konnte. Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. 26.  Und er schickte ihn heim und sprach: Gehe nicht hinein in den Flecken und sage es auch niemand drinnen. And He sent him to his home, saying, "Do not even enter the village." 27.  Und Jesus ging aus mit seinen Jüngern in die Märkte der Stadt Cäsarea Philippi. Und auf dem Wege fragte er seine Jünger und sprach zu ihnen: Wer sagen die Leute, daß ich sei? Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, "Who do people say that I am?" 28.  Sie antworteten: Sie sagen du seiest Johannes der Täufer; etliche sagen, du seiest Elia; etliche, du seiest der Propheten einer. They told Him, saying, "John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets." 29.  Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ihr aber, wer sagt ihr, daß ich sei? Da antwortete Petrus und sprach zu ihm: Du bist Christus! And He continued by questioning them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter *answered and *said to Him, "You are the Christ." 30.  Und er bedrohte sie, daß sie niemand von ihm sagen sollten. And He warned them to tell no one about Him. 31.  Und er hob an sie zu lehren: Des Menschen Sohn muß viel leiden und verworfen werden von den Ältesten und Hohenpriestern und Schriftgelehrten und getötet werden und über drei Tage auferstehen. And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32.  Und er redete das Wort frei offenbar. Und Petrus nahm ihn zu sich, fing an, ihm zu wehren. And He was stating the matter plainly. "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it. 36.  Was hülfe es dem Menschen, wenn er die ganze Welt gewönne, und nähme an seiner Seele Schaden? "For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? 37.  Oder was kann der Mensch geben, damit er seine Seele löse. "For what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38.  Wer sich aber mein und meiner Worte schämt unter diesem ehebrecherischen und sündigen Geschlecht, des wird sich auch des Menschen Sohn schämen, wenn er kommen wird in der Herrlichkeit seines Vaters mit den heiligen Engeln. And Jesus was saying to them, "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power." 2.  Und nach sechs Tagen nahm Jesus zu sich Petrus, Jakobus und Johannes und führte sie auf einen hohen Berg besonders allein und verklärte sich vor ihnen. Six days later, Jesus *took with Him Peter and James and John, and *brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; 3.  Und seine Kleider wurden hell und sehr weiß wie der Schnee, daß sie kein Färber auf Erden kann so weiß machen. and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. 4.  Und es erschien ihnen Elia mit Mose und hatten eine Rede mit Jesu. For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified. 7.  Und es kam eine Wolke, die überschattete sie. Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!" 8.  Und bald darnach sahen sie um sich und sahen niemand mehr denn allein Jesum bei ihnen. As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead. 10.  Und sie behielten das Wort bei sich und befragten sich untereinander: Was ist doch das Auferstehen von den Toten? They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant. 11.  Und sie fragten ihn und sprachen: Sagen doch die Schriftgelehrten, daß Elia muß zuvor kommen. They asked Him, saying, "Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" 12.  Er antwortete aber und sprach zu ihnen: Elia soll ja zuvor kommen und alles wieder zurechtbringen; dazu soll des Menschen Sohn viel leiden und verachtet werden, wie denn geschrieben steht. And He said to them, "Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt? 13.  Aber ich sage euch: Elia ist gekommen, und sie haben an ihm getan, was sie wollten, nach dem von ihm geschrieben steht. {~} "But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him." 14.  Und er kam zu seinen Jüngern und sah viel Volks um sie und Schriftgelehrte, die sich mit ihnen befragten. When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them. 15.  Und alsbald, da alles Volk ihn sah, entsetzten sie sich, liefen zu und grüßten ihn. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it." 19.  Er antwortete ihm aber und sprach: O du ungläubiges Geschlecht, wie lange soll ich bei euch sein? wie lange soll ich euch tragen? Bringet ihn her zu mir! And He *answered them and *said, "O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!" 20.  Und sie brachten ihn her zu ihm. Und alsbald, da ihn der Geist sah, riß er ihn; und er fiel auf die Erde und wälzte sich und schäumte. They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth. 21.  Und er fragte seinen Vater: Wie lange ist's, daß es ihm widerfahren ist? Er sprach: Von Kind auf. And He asked his father, "How long has this been happening to him?" And he said, "From childhood. 22.  Und oft hat er ihn in Feuer und Wasser geworfen, daß er ihn umbrächte. Kannst du aber was, so erbarme dich unser und hilf uns! "It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!" 23.  Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Wenn du könntest Glauben! Alle Dinge sind möglich dem, der da glaubt. And Jesus said to him, " `If You can?' All things are possible to him who believes." 24.  Und alsbald schrie des Kindes Vater mit Tränen und sprach: Ich glaube, lieber HERR, hilf meinem Unglauben! Immediately the boy's father cried out and said, "I do believe; help my unbelief." 25.  Da nun Jesus sah, daß das Volk zulief, bedrohte er den unsauberen Geist und sprach zu ihm: Du sprachloser und tauber Geist, ich gebiete dir, daß du von ihm ausfahrest und fahrest hinfort nicht in ihn! When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again." 26.  Da schrie er und riß ihn sehr und fuhr aus. Und er ward, als wäre er tot, daß auch viele sagten: Er ist tot. After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, "He is dead!" 27.  Jesus aber ergriff ihn bei der Hand und richtete ihn auf; und er stand auf. But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up. 28.  Und da er heimkam, fragten ihn seine Jünger besonders: Warum konnten wir ihn nicht austreiben? When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, "Why could we not drive it out?" 29.  Und er sprach: Diese Art kann mit nichts ausfahren denn durch Beten und Fasten. And He said to them, "This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer." 30.  Und sie gingen von da hinweg und wandelten durch Galiläa; und er wollte nicht, daß es jemand wissen sollte. From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it. 31.  Er lehrte aber seine Jünger und sprach zu ihnen: Des Menschen Sohn wird überantwortet werden in der Menschen Hände, und sie werden ihn töten; und wenn er getötet ist, so wird er am dritten Tage auferstehen. For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, "The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later." 32.  Sie aber verstanden das Wort nicht, und fürchteten sich, ihn zu fragen. But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him. 33.  Und er kam gen Kapernaum. Und da er daheim war, fragten er sie: Was handeltet ihr miteinander auf dem Wege? They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, "What were you discussing on the way?" 34.  Sie aber schwiegen; denn sie hatten miteinander auf dem Wege gehandelt, welcher der Größte wäre. But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest. 35.  Und er setzte sich und rief die Zwölf und sprach zu ihnen: So jemand will der Erste sein, der soll der Letzte sein vor allen und aller Knecht. Sitting down, He called the twelve and *said to them, "If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all." 36.  Und er nahm ein Kindlein und stellte es mitten unter sie und herzte es und sprach zu ihnen: Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them, 37.  Wer ein solches Kindlein in meinem Namen aufnimmt, der nimmt mich auf; und wer mich aufnimmt, der nimmt nicht mich auf, sondern den, der mich gesandt hat. "Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me." 38.  Johannes aber antwortete ihn und sprach: Meister, wir sahen einen, der trieb Teufel in deinem Namen aus, welcher uns nicht nachfolgt; und wir verboten's ihm, darum daß er uns nicht nachfolgt. John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." 39.  Jesus aber sprach: Ihr sollt's ihm nicht verbieten. Denn es ist niemand, der eine Tat tue in meinem Namen, und möge bald übel von mir reden. But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. 40.  Wer nicht wider uns ist, der ist für uns. "For he who is not against us is for us. 41.  Wer aber euch tränkt mit einem Becher Wassers in meinem Namen, darum daß ihr Christo angehöret, wahrlich, ich sage euch, es wird ihm nicht unvergolten bleiben. "For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward. 42.  Und wer der Kleinen einen ärgert, die an mich glauben, dem wäre es besser, daß ihm ein Mühlstein an seinen Hals gehängt und er ins Meer geworfen würde. "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea. 43.  So dich aber deine Hand ärgert, so haue sie ab! Es ist dir besser, daß du als ein Krüppel zum Leben eingehest, denn daß du zwei Hände habest und fahrest in die Hölle, in das ewige Feuer, "If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire, 44.  da ihr Wurm nicht stirbt und ihr Feuer nicht verlöscht. [where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.] 45.  Ärgert dich dein Fuß, so haue ihn ab. Es ist dir besser, daß du lahm zum Leben eingehest, denn daß du zwei Füße habest und werdest in die Hölle geworfen, in das ewige Feuer, "If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into hell, 46.  da ihr Wurm nicht stirbt und ihr Feuer nicht verlöscht. Es ist dir besser, daß du einäugig in das Reich Gottes gehest, denn daß du zwei Augen habest und werdest in das höllische Feuer geworfen, "If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into hell, 48.  da ihr Wurm nicht stirbt ihr Feuer nicht verlöscht. where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED. 49.  Es muß ein jeglicher mit Feuer gesalzen werden, und alles Opfer wird mit Salz gesalzen. "For everyone will be salted with fire. 50.  Das Salz ist gut; so aber das Salz dumm wird, womit wird man's würzen? Habt Salz bei euch und habt Frieden untereinander. "Salt is good; but if the salt becomes unsalty, with what will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another."

Getting up, He *went from there to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan; crowds *gathered around Him again, and, according to His custom, He once more began to teach them. 2.  Und die Pharisäer traten zu ihm und fragten ihn, ob ein Mann sich scheiden möge von seinem Weibe; und versuchten ihn damit. Some Pharisees came up to Jesus, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife. 3.  Er antwortete aber und sprach: Was hat euch Mose geboten? And He answered and said to them, "What did Moses command you?" 4.  Sie sprachen; Mose hat zugelassen, einen Scheidebrief zu schreiben und sich zu scheiden. In the house the disciples began questioning Him about this again. 11.  Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wer sich scheidet von seinem Weibe und freit eine andere, der bricht die Ehe an ihr; And He *said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; 12.  und so sich ein Weib scheidet von ihrem Manne und freit einen anderen, die bricht ihre Ehe. and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery." 13.  Und sie brachten Kindlein zu ihm, daß er sie anrührte. Die Jünger aber fuhren die an, die sie trugen. And they were bringing children to Him so that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. 14.  Da es aber Jesus sah, ward er unwillig und sprach zu ihnen: Lasset die Kindlein zu mir kommen und wehret ihnen nicht; denn solcher ist das Reich Gottes. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15.  Wahrlich ich sage euch: Wer das Reich Gottes nicht empfängt wie ein Kindlein, der wird nicht hineinkommen. "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." 16.  Und er herzte sie und legte die Hände auf sie und segnete sie. And He took them in His arms and began blessing them, laying His hands on them. 17.  Und da er hinausgegangen war auf den Weg, lief einer herzu, kniete, vor ihn und fragte ihn: Guter Meister, was soll ich tun, daß ich das ewige Leben ererbe? "You know the commandments, `DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, Do not defraud, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.' " 20.  Er aber antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Meister, das habe ich alles gehalten von meiner Jugend auf. And he said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up." 21.  Und Jesus sah ihn an und liebte ihn und sprach zu ihm: Eines fehlt dir. Gehe hin, verkaufe alles, was du hast, und gib's den Armen, so wirst du einen Schatz im Himmel haben, und komm, folge mir nach und nimm das Kreuz auf dich. Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, "One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." 22.  Er aber ward unmutig über die Rede und ging traurig davon; denn er hatte viele Güter. But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property. 23.  Und Jesus sah um sich und sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Wie schwer werden die Reichen in das Reich Gottes kommen! And Jesus, looking around, *said to His disciples, "How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!" 24.  Die Jünger aber entsetzten sich über seine Rede. Aber Jesus antwortete wiederum und sprach zu ihnen: Liebe Kinder, wie schwer ist's, daß die, so ihr Vertrauen auf Reichtum setzen, ins Reich Gottes kommen! The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus *answered again and *said to them, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25.  Es ist leichter, daß ein Kamel durch ein Nadelöhr gehe, denn daß ein Reicher ins Reich Gottes komme. "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." 26.  Sie entsetzten sich aber noch viel mehr und sprachen untereinander: Wer kann denn selig werden? They were even more astonished and said to Him, "Then who can be saved?" 27.  Jesus aber sah sie an und sprach: Bei den Menschen ist's unmöglich, aber nicht bei Gott; denn alle Dinge sind möglich bei Gott. Looking at them, Jesus *said, "With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God." 28.  Da sagte Petrus zu ihm: Siehe, wir haben alles verlassen und sind dir nachgefolgt. Peter began to say to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You." 29.  Jesus antwortete und sprach: Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Es ist niemand, so er verläßt Haus oder Brüder oder Schwestern oder Vater oder Mutter oder Weib oder Kind oder Äcker um meinetwillen und um des Evangeliums willen, Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel's sake, 30.  der nicht hundertfältig empfange: jetzt in dieser Zeit Häuser und Brüder und Schwestern und Mütter und Kinder und Äcker mitten unter Verfolgungen, und in der zukünftigen Welt das ewige Leben. but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. 31.  Viele aber werden die Letzten sein, die die Ersten sind, und die Ersten sein, die die Letzten sind. "But many who are first will be last, and the last, first." 32.  Sie waren aber auf dem Wege und gingen hinauf gen Jerusalem; und Jesus ging vor ihnen, und sie entsetzten sich, folgten ihm nach und fürchteten sich. Und Jesus nahm abermals zu sich die Zwölf und sagte ihnen, was ihm widerfahren würde: They were on the road going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking on ahead of them; and they were amazed, and those who followed were fearful. "They will mock Him and spit on Him, and scourge Him and kill Him, and three days later He will rise again." 35.  Da gingen zu ihm Jakobus und Johannes, die Söhne des Zebedäus, und sprachen: Meister, wir wollen, daß du uns tuest, was wir dich bitten werden. James and John, the two sons of Zebedee, *came up to Jesus, saying, "Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask of You." 36.  Er sprach zu ihnen: Was wollt ihr, daß ich euch tue? And He said to them, "What do you want Me to do for you?" 37.  Sie sprachen zu ihm: Gib uns, daß wir sitzen einer zu deiner Rechten und einer zu deiner Linken in deiner Herrlichkeit. They said to Him, "Grant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory." 38.  Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Ihr wisset nicht, was ihr bittet. Könnt ihr den Kelch trinken, den ich trinke, und euch taufen lassen mit der Taufe, mit der ich getauft werde? But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" 39.  Sie sprachen zu ihm: Ja, wir können es wohl. Jesus aber sprach zu ihnen: Ihr werdet zwar den Kelch trinken, den ich trinke, und getauft werden mit der Taufe, mit der ich getauft werde; They said to Him, "We are able." "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." 46.  Und sie kamen gen Jericho. Und da er aus Jericho ging, er und seine Jünger und ein großes Volk, da saß ein Blinder, Bartimäus, des Timäus Sohn, am Wege und bettelte. Then they *came to Jericho. And as He was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the road. 47.  Und da er hörte, daß es Jesus von Nazareth war, fing er an, zu schreien und zu sagen: Jesu, du Sohn Davids, erbarme dich mein! When he heard that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" 48.  Und viele bedrohten ihn, er sollte stillschweigen. Er aber schrie viel mehr: Du Sohn Davids, erbarme dich mein! Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" 49.  Und Jesus stand still und ließ ihn rufen. Und sie riefen den Blinden und sprachen zu ihm: Sei getrost! stehe auf, er ruft dich! And Jesus stopped and said, "Call him here." So they *called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage, stand up! He is calling for you." 50.  Und er warf sein Kleid von sich, stand auf und kam zu Jesu. Throwing aside his cloak, he jumped up and came to Jesus. 51.  Und Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Was willst du, daß ich dir tun soll? Der Blinde sprach zu ihm: Rabbuni, daß ich sehend werde. And answering him, Jesus said, "What do you want Me to do for you?" And the blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, I want to regain my sight!" 52.  Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: Gehe hin; dein Glaube hat dir geholfen. Und alsbald ward er sehend und folgte ihm nach auf dem Wege. And Jesus said to him, "Go; your faith has made you well." Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him on the road.
